Handmade Gallery – A Brighton Co-op

Something for the weekend # 01

And so I was walking up St James’ Street on my way home and pass a tiny shop with a window packed full of things that I wanted, sorry, needed. Before i knew it i was inside looking at badges, jewels, jumpers, cushions and hand sewn friendly wall mounted stag heads – want want want. There was only one thing to do and that was to come back with the husband…….and this time leave with a new owl clock necklace and “favorite pen” cushion.

Handmade is a cooperative of 28 Brighton based artists, designers and makers, it is kinda like a walk in etsy where you are sure to walk out with lighter pockets, not that things are expensive, you can get badges for £1 and my hand-sewn cushion by Angela Chick was only £18 which i think is a bargain. You can even pick up a Papercakes card, look out for the hand drawn sad apples and cake cards for just £1.50! This new little gallery, which opened in June of this year, has bought a ray of sunshine to a part of Brighton that really needed it.

You will find Handmade at 106 St James’ Street opposite the new Tesco (yuck) they are open Tuesday – Saturday 10-6 and Sundays 11-5 (closed Mondays – and who can blame them).
