John Dilnot and his perfect prints

Inspiration Monday # 14

I was in Appendage the other day, I had, no doubt, seen some owls in the window and just couldn’t help popping in, they had some beautiful little prints on display by John Dilnot.

Well I’m a bit obsessed with birds at the moment, owls in particular but birds in general, I also love work depicting rocks and gems and this guy had all bases covered. When I got home I checked out his website and now I’m well and truly hooked.

There is a humor running throughout the work, check out his “weeds and pests” concertina book and the “potato prints”, genius! (I would get the potato print book for Kev if I had the pennies, it’s so witty).

I emailed to see if he had a copy of “weeds and pests” and to my delight he had just a few remaining from a show that he did at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition last year, even more exciting (for me) is that he is based in Brighton and welcomes visitors (by appointment) to his studio in New England House. John is a really nice guy, he explained that the prints are Gocco printed and that totally sealed the deal, I think that I will be back for more. I could have stayed in his studio all day if it wasn’t for Matilda throwing her beaker and a wobbly and generally having a good scream – we had to leave but I have a very special Gocco printed copy of weeds and pests to look at on a rainy day.
