The meaning of things.

This is why we make.

To create things that aspire.

That hold meaning.

That speak quietly, but deeply.

Things that help people pause. Reflect. Live more truthfully.

Maybe that’s asking too much of a thing.

But I try.

I make a pencil. A ring. A pendant. Small things, built to last beyond us.

A lady ordered one. The first pencil sharpener we'd ever made in gold.

Then she sent me this...

“I wanted to share how meaningful these pieces are to me.

Life… is a lot like a pencil.

At the beginning, it’s fresh - unmarked, full of potential. It doesn’t know yet what it will draw, what words it will write, or what mistakes it will make. It just knows it has something inside - something to offer.

As we go through life, we begin to write our story. Each day is a line, a sketch, a chapter. Some parts are messy, others precise. Sometimes we press too hard and leave marks we can’t erase. Sometimes we barely touch the page, afraid of making mistakes.

But here’s the thing: a pencil gets dull with use. So do we. We get tired, we lose our edge, we question our direction.

That’s when life brings out the sharpener.

It might come in the form of a setback. A loss. A challenge that cuts deep. And like a pencil in a blade, we feel the pressure. We feel stripped down, changed.

But through that process - we become sharper. More defined. We gain clarity. We write better, not in perfect lines, but in ones filled with depth and experience.

Even the eraser at the end of the pencil has something to teach us: that it’s okay to make mistakes. That forgiveness, to ourselves and others, is just as important as getting things right.

Yes, the pencil will eventually wear down. Time is not endless. But what truly matters… is what we choose to write before the pencil runs out.

So write boldly. Accept the sharpening. Embrace the smudges, the rewrites, the pauses.

Because a well-used pencil - just like a well-lived life - is never wasted.”
